Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP)

Glass Reinforced Plastic is a composite material or fiber-reinforced plastic made of a plastic reinforced by fine fibers made of glass. This composite material is commonly referred to as fiberglass. GRP is an immensely versatile material that combines lightweight with inherent strength to provide a weather resistant finish, with a variety of surface textures and an unlimited color range.

GRP was developed in the UK during the Second World War as a replacement for the molded plywood used in aircraft radomes, GRP being transparent to microwaves. Its first main civilian application was for building of boats and has broadened to the automotive industry, sport equipment sector, telecommunications industry and for the manufacture of a wide variety of storage tanks. Glass reinforced plastics are also used in the construction industry for the production of roofing laminates, door surrounds, over-door canopies, window canopies and dormers. The use of GRP for these applications provides for faster installation and easy handling due to the reduced weight.

Al Ain United Trading & Contracting Co. manufactures GRP products to suit various industrial and architectural applications.

The products can be broadly classified as:
